To become a military leader it takes a combination of leadership and circumstance. Over the years there have been many famous military commanders, but only a few of them can be considered great. The following leaders are some of the greatest leaders because they had the capabilities and character traits to lead and overpower in ways no one else has.

Georgy Zhukov
Zhokov is probably one of the most celebrated and dedicated war heroes in the history of The Soviet Union. His most notable accomplishment was leading The Red Army in driving the Germans out of Russia during World War II. He would eventually advance through Eastern Europe, to crush Berlin and help defeat the Axis Powers.

William the Conqueror
William is thought to be a major reason for the existence of the Anglo-Norman culture. He led Norman into England for what would be the last time England was conquered. His most famed battle, the Battle of Hastings was what led to Englands collapse.

Ghengis Khan
No military leader list would be complete without the father of the largest empire in history. The Mongol Empire conquered and occupied substantial parts of Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East. He led his empire by using military tactics and intelligence that is still being used in modern combat.
